Thank you very much for this story. As a student myself, I have been reviewing sources on work/study abroad opportunities as well as seeking feedback on the affects of the experiences.
Having been disabled for a period in time, I can relate to the concerns presented here regarding travel abroad which may have its own concerns before adding the factor of disabling limitations. I can certainly understand this hurdle in light of existing marginalization due inability to access. It sounds like Molly is an awesome person in her own right and bravely faced terrains which were more difficult for her.

Have there been any documented instances of difficulties for students with disabilities when studying or working abroad? Thanks

I completed a study abroad while working on my B.A. and it was a real life-changing experience, and I’ve expressed interested in either getting my Master’s abroad, or doing an internship abroad. But it seems like finding an internship abroad is easier said than done. I’ve tried to get some help through my home university, but it’s hard to filter through the actual experiences that get you overseas and ones that keep you in an office here in the US.

Does the article writer (Stacey) or any of you in the comments have any advice on getting an internship abroad, or where to start looking?

I certainly appreciate your insights regarding the significance of global educational experiences while giving attention to cost considerations which may become a deterrent for some students. Also I agree with your sentiments regarding the potential of meshing global experience into the classroom discussion-I think I would have gained a deeper sense of the importance of such an experience (as opposed to declining out of concern for collegiate activities). I was to inquire about your thoughts of global education and whether or not the experiences can improve (potentially) a student’s chances with employment opportunities and advancement. Hi Cynthia,
My husband, three young boys and I live in Colorado but will be heading to Australia for a year this December while my husband participates in a teacher exchange program. We’ll be in Wollongong, NSW and I am very much looking forward to experiencing life down there with our children. I’d love to hear about particular travels or experiences that really stand out as ones that we shouldn’t miss while down there (unfortunately, we’ll be on a fairly tight budget while we’re there, but lots of camping should offer a unique perspective). I look forward to reading more blog posts before you all head home!
