Australian National University Wins International Green Campus Award

The environmental management program at Australian National University has received the Impact Award from the International Sustainable Campus Network at a ceremony in Lausanne, Switzerland, according to ANU News. Since its inception in 1999 the ANU Green Program has helped the university achieve targets for water reductions, vehicle fleet CO2 emission reductions, and community awareness raising.

Massey University’s New Million-Dollar Medical Facility Sees First Equine Clinical Patient

Massey University’s new million-dollar medical facility was used July 30 for its first equine clinical patient, an 8-year-old injured dressage horse called Sydney.

The gelding received treatment at Massey University’s new $1.1 million scanning facility, where equine surgeon Fred Pauwels used a computed technology (CT) scanner to view a cyst on the pedal bone of Sydney’s foot and determine a course of treatment, potentially keyhole surgery.

The $1.1 million scanning facility includes a purpose-built knock-down box where large animals can be safely anaesthetised, according to Massey News, a hoist able to lift up to 1.5 tons and a $470,000 Philips CT scanner, the only one of its type in New Zealand with an integrated table enabling scanning of large animals including horses, whales and cattle.
