A new center at Lancaster University will collaborate with industrial partners including Unilever Research and Shell Research to produce a new generation of highly employable researchers working in diverse fields ranging from banking and manufacturing to aviation and energy.
The Centre for Doctoral Training will deliver four-year PhDs and provide real-world projects and experience throughout the course.
The centre, made possible by a combination of new investments, will train at least 40 students over seven years and will admit the first of those students in October 2010.
“Graduates with good Statistics and Operational Research qualifications are highly sought after and by jointly training our students with industry they will have a competitive edge,” said Professor Jonathan Tawn in a university news article.
Manchester Established As International Sporting Knowledge Capital City
Manchester is being established as an international sporting knowledge hub with the formation of the World Academy of Sport International Advisory Board.
The academy’s education headquarters, based at the Manchester Business School, will host the first International Advisory Board at the Manchester Town Hall.
“Manchester, which is already an established world leader in major international sporting event delivery, will now also act as the international education hub for the IAB due to its excellent reputation for world class sports knowledge and education delivered through the University of Manchester,” said Francois Carrard, chairman and ex-director general of the International Olympic Committee.
